Challenges for Universities
On October 22nd and 23rd the first international conference ‘Research in Higher Education’ took place at the Higher School of Economics. The event was organized by the HSE together with the Boston College Center for International Higher Education, the World Bank and the National Foundation for Professional Training.
‘Be Interested in Germany like we are Interested in Russia’

‘We Have Taken an Important Strategic Decision’
On September 17tha delegation from the University of Lancaster, Great Britain, visited the Higher School of Economics. At a series of meetings, the guests learnt more about the HSE’s activities, and were involved in negotiations regarding possible areas of cooperation between the two universities.
Similarity of Strategies
On September 10th a meeting between representatives of the HSE and Tohoku University, Japan, took place at the HSE. The aim of the visit was a preliminary discussion of the potential areas of cooperation between the two universities.
Studying the Civil Society
The 9th World Assembly of the World Alliance for Citizen Participation (CIVICUS) ‘Acting Together for a Just World’ took place in Montreal on August 20th-23rd and involved about 500 delegates from 70 countries, with representatives from NGOs, international organizations, media, business and research institutions, including the Higher School of Economics.
Strengthening the Reciprocity with American Sociologists
The Higher School of Economics has won a second grant in the programme of collaboration between U.S. and Russian universities.
Items for a Common Agenda
On August 2nd an opening ceremony of the 10th international summer school Baltic Practice took place in Oslo. Nina Belyaeva, Academic Supervisor of the School, told us about the specifics of this year's event.
'Europe Opened up to us'
From July 10th –25th the joint Russian-Swiss Summer School took place in Moscow and Lucerne. 13 students from the HSE and 22 students from the University of Lucerne participated in it.
Moscow and Shanghai Have Much in Common
A delegation from the Strategic Consultation Committee of the Shanghai Government visited the Higher School of Economics and met with HSE experts on urban development on July 19th.

Academic Papers of the 9th International Session of the HSE Russian–European Center for Multidisciplinary Research were published by Vytautas Magnus University Press, Kaunas, Lithuania.
