On October 19th a meeting of the HSE International College of Economics and Finance with the British Ambassador in Russia, Anne Pringle, took place at the HSE. The Ambassador gave a lecture on ‘The Global Economy and An Overview of British-Russian Relations ’.

To the Future with Foresight

This was the main idea of the seminar ‘Scientific, Technical and Innovation Policies ’which was held on October 6th by the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge with the participation of experts from the University of Manchester.

Recently the 17th International Conference on Conceptual Structures (ICCS 2009) was held at the HSE. As part of this event, mathematicians, programmers, linguists and philosophers discussed principles and methods of concept representation and processing. We talked to the conference organizers and some participants about the cumulative effect of interdisciplinary research, potential for graphic representation of knowledge and some architectural surprises of the Russian capital!
Stanford + HSE: Endless Possibilities for Co-operation
On July 28th a meeting between HSE and the U.S. Department of Education representatives took place, dedicated to the ongoing collaborative project between the Higher School of Economics and Stanford University.
Comprehensive Approach to Security
On June 3rd Jayantha Dhanapala, the President of the international Pugwash Movement, gave a lecture at the HSE. His speech was dedicated to the prospects of concluding new agreements on nuclear weapons, but he also commented on the main problems of international security today.
US-Russia Cooperation Road Map
John Beyrle, the US Ambassador to the Russian Federation, lectured on the US-Russia bilateral relations at the HSE. Answering some queries he sketched common ground for US-Russia cooperation strengthening. In his speech the US Ambassador focused on the "Four I`s" doctrine that is promoted by the Russian President D. Medvedev.

Howard Davis lecture "Credit Crunch and Its Consequences"
On November 17 Howard Davis, the LSE director, presented a lecture "Credit Crunch and Its Consequences" at the SU—HSE. Mr. Davis depicted the global financial crush as a drama consisting of five parts: subprime, liquidity, unravelling,meltdown and pumping. At the end of his lecture Mr. Davis offered several ways to overcome the crisis.
