
Low-Carbon Exports Reduce CO2 Emissions
Researchers at the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences and the Federal Research Centre of Coal and Coal Chemistry have found that exporting low-carbon goods contributes to a better environment in Russian regions and helps them reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The study results have been published in R-Economy.

Around 11 million people in Russia live with a disability. Of these, approximately 27% are of working age, yet only one in four is employed. HSE University and the Bank of Russia jointly organised a round table titled ‘Employment Practices for Students with Disabilities and Health Limitations.’

Russian Scientists Assess Dangers of Internal Waves During Underwater Volcanic Eruptions
Mathematicians at HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod and the A.V. Gaponov-Grekhov Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences studied internal waves generated in the ocean after the explosive eruption of an underwater volcano. The researchers calculated how the waves vary depending on ocean depth and the radius of the explosion source. It turns out that the strongest wave in the first group does not arrive immediately, but after a significant delay. This data can help predict the consequences of eruptions and enable advance preparation for potential threats. The article has been published in Natural Hazards. International Partners' Week Starts at HSE University–St Petersburg
HSE University–St Petersburg has launched International Partners' Week, which brings together more than 100 representatives of leading global universities. The grand opening ceremony took place on May 20 in the new HSE building on Vasilievsky Island.
Forbes University Ranking: HSE Has Top Reputation among Employers
On May 22, Forbes Education released its updated ranking of the 100 best universities in Russia for 2025. HSE University retained its second-place position, having established itself as the university with the highest employer reputation. Among the top 20 were 12 universities from Moscow, three from St Petersburg, two from Tatarstan, and one each from the Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk, and Tomsk regions.

HSE and Sichuan University Sign Cooperation Agreement
On May 20, 2025, HSE University hosted an official delegation from Sichuan University headed by President Wang Jinsong. During the meeting, the universities signed a cooperation agreement.

HSE Students Win Gold Medals at International Mathematical Olympiad in Ashgabat
The 5th Open Mathematical Olympiad for University Students (OMOUS-2025) took place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, attracting teams from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Iran, Romania, Poland, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and India. In total, around 500 students took part in the event.

Showcasing the Diversity of African Heritage at HSE University–St Petersburg
On April 26, HSE University–St Petersburg held the African Festival. Currently, there are more than 100 students from 20 African countries at the university, most of whom showed up for the first festival of its kind this April. HSE's African students proudly presented their traditions, cultural values, vibrant dances, and unique landmarks of their countries. It was an unforgettable journey into the colourful culture and multifaceted heritage of Africa.

HSE University–St Petersburg Presents Project on Social Entrepreneurship at Session of Russian–Malaysian Working Group
Alexander Sorokin, Dean of the St Petersburg School of Social Sciences, presented the results of a joint Russian–Malaysian mirror laboratory project in social entrepreneurship at the second meeting of the Russian–Malaysian Working Group on Education, Science, and Technology at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

‘Feel the Atmosphere of Different Cultures’: HSE University Holds Oriental Crazy Day
On May 17, the eleventh Oriental Crazy Day, organised by the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, took place at the HSE Cultural Centre. Anyone interested in Asian Studies, culture and languages, as well as admission to HSE University could take part in the event. Students and teachers of the university prepared master classes, quizzes and contests, K-pop dancing and kabuki theatre, Asian songs and poetry for all the participants.
