HSE University Conducts CPD Programmes for Teachers from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan
HSE University develops and supports talents not only in Russia, but also abroad. For many years, the International Admissions Office has been organizing activities to attract high-achieving foreign applicants, as well as to improve the qualifications of teachers from partner schools. Among the meetings recently put together by HSE University are continuing professional development (CPD) programmes for teachers from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
In 2023 and spring 2024, HSE University staff discussed current teaching challenges within modern schools with foreign teachers, and also shared their experience in the field of the latest educational technologies.
Within the CPD programme ‘Problems and practices of teaching social sciences in modern schools’ in Kyrgyzstan, the participants discussed issues of teaching a social studies course. The main goal of the programme was to develop the professional skills of social studies teachers in the field of modern social sciences, economics, and law and to master the skills necessary to prepare schoolchildren for successful participation in social science competitions, passing qualification tests, and studying in Russia’s higher education institutions.
‘The issues and problems that we discussed with teachers from Kyrgyzstan are virtually identical to the problems of Russian teachers. We came to the conclusion that schoolchildren in our countries are very similar—curious, inquisitive, and quite advanced. Even teachers learn something from them every now and then,' noted Maksim Bogachev, Programme Head, Academic Supervisor of the Bachelor’s programme ‘Political Science’ and Scientific Supervisor of the Master’s programme ‘Contemporary Social Studies in Secondary Schools.’
Continuing professional development programmes in Uzbekistan were devoted to the problems and practices of teaching Russian history, as well as standards of career guidance work at school.
The most important task within the CPD programme ‘Problems and practices of teaching Russian history’ was to increase the level of subject, methodological, and communicative skills of history and social studies teachers, taking into account modern requirements for the level of teacher qualifications and the development of the educational system as a whole. The programme was headed by Alsu Biktasheva, Professor at HSE University’s School of History, Academic Supervisor of the Master’s programme ‘History of the Modern World,’ and Antonina Sharova, Associate Professor at HSE University’s School of History, Academic Supervisor of the Bachelor’s programme ‘History.’
‘I would like to thank the Russian Federation, represented by the teachers of HSE University, for the opportunity to participate in the series of lectures. I really enjoyed them as well as meeting the programme speakers. I hope that I will be able to take part again, in equally interesting events at HSE University,' shared Leila Velieva, a history teacher and student of the programme in Uzbekistan.
In addition to conducting the CPD programme, HSE University teachers also met with undergraduate and graduate students in Tashkent and Samarkand, spoke about studying in two educational programmes of HSE University and conducted a quiz ‘Knowledge of history is the key to understanding modern life!’ with prizes for participants.
During the CPD programme ‘What is career guidance work with students and how to carry it out,’ the tasks, directions, and formats of career guidance work, diagnostic methods of career guidance, methods for designing a professional future, students’ careers, and other issues were discussed. The attendants mastered the methodology of conducting independent career guidance lessons, prepared and defended their draft lessons on the topics: ‘Career growth, trajectory, starts, and scope of thinking,’ ‘The world of professions,’ ‘How to relate one’s abilities to professions,’ ‘Inclinations and interests when choosing a profession,’ and others.
'I really liked the programme: it is relevant, informative, practical, and interesting. Everything is very structured—one can simply take it and apply it to their work,’ shared one programme participant, Dildora Pulatova. Another participant, Nilufar Akramova, added, 'The entire course is valuable and useful. It opens up opportunities for teenagers to learn to discuss problematic issues and express their point of view.'

New CPD Programme in Plurilingual Intercultural Creative Keys Launched at HSE University
HSE's School of Psychology is launching a new CPD programme ‘Plurilingual Intercultural Creative Keys’ (PICK). The programme was specially developed by the HSE Laboratory for Linguistic, Intercultural and Creative Competencies and is based on the innovative PICK training system designed to improve the skills of school teachers and tutors, as well as parents involved in teaching their children at home. The programme will be taught in Russian.
