Online Meetups with International Summer University Professors
In the run-up to the HSE International Summer University, which will open on June 20, a series of special online meetups are currently held in association with HSE’s eLearning Office. The meetups give international students an opportunity to meet HSE University professors who teach courses during the Summer University programme. Registration for the final meetup, on June 11, is now open.
Two meetups with professors of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs have already taken place. Another meetup, with Professor Ilya Kiriya, Head of the School of Media, is slated for June 11, 11 am (GMT+3). It will focus on the phenomenon of fake news during the Covid-19 pandemic (which has been called infodemic by WHO). During the Summer University, Professor Kiriya will be teaching a course ‘Fake news, Post-truth and Digital Media: Inquiry into Relationship between Media and Politics’ that will run from June 21 to July 02.

‘We will talk about a creation of the anti-fake-news framework and show that in the contemporary digital networking world fake news circulate freely and their distribution is even encouraged by internet users.’
Previous meetups, with Professors Dmitry Suslov and Vladimir Zuev, were highly engaging and informative. Both meeting drew large audiences of international participants who not only asked questions about the topics presented, but were also interested in learning more about HSE University admissions and the opportunity to participate in International Summer University courses.
On May 28, Professor Dmitry Suslov, Deputy Director of the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEIS), spoke about his course US-Russia Relations between the Cold Wars, taught as part of Summer University. He talked about the prospects for US-Russia relations improvement in the observable future. The talk generated a lively discussion that focused on the scenarios of further development of US-Russian confrontation.
On June 2, Professor Vladimir N. Zuev from the HSE School of World Economy discussed the present state and the future development in the global energy sector. The meetup participants talked about technical, market-related and regulative aspects of the energy sector and shared their practical experience in the field of energy.
